The Penguin Press to publish Pandora’s Box by Ronan Farrow

Ann Godoff, President and Editor-in-Chief of The Penguin Press, an imprint of Penguin Group (USA), today announced the acquisition of Pandora’s Box: How American Military Aid Creates America’s Enemies by Ronan Farrow. Godoff and Scott Moyers, Vice President and Publisher of The Penguin Press, acquired the book and Moyers will serve as its editor.

Pandora’s Box is a hard-hitting investigation of a surprising dark side of America’s role in the world, drawing on Ronan Farrow’s experiences as a young diplomat working with powerful decision-makers and in volatile trouble spots. It provides a missing puzzle piece in people’s understanding of some of the biggest international crises in recent memory. And it tells readers how to mobilize to make a difference in those crises,” Godoff said. “But it’s also a personal exploration of a generation’s struggle with how to stand with its government without losing its principles.”

“People are tired of watching the same policies backfire time and time again while being told that this is just the way things are done. We need to understand how we got here—and how to change it,” said Farrow. “That’s why I’m writing this book. Also it got too long for a tweet.” More…

The Penguin Press to Publish First Book by Acclaimed Comedian and Actor Aziz Ansari

The Penguin Press to Publish First Book by Acclaimed Comedian and Actor Aziz Ansari

Scott Moyers, Vice President and Publisher of The Penguin Press, an imprint of Penguin Group (USA), today announced the acquisition of the first book by acclaimed comedian and actor Aziz Ansari.

The untitled book will provide an investigation into what Ansari argues is an entirely new era for singles, in which the basic issues facing a single person—whom we meet, how we meet them, and what happens next—have been radically altered by new technologies. Ansari will be allying with noted academics for interviews and to conduct original research to help him bring the new reality into focus.

In making today’s announcement, Moyers said, “As millions of people know, so much of Aziz Ansari’s brilliant humor comes from grasping the hidden forces that govern our everyday lives. I’m delighted but not surprised that he is the one who is going to make sense of the strange new world that singles have to navigate today, one with powerful new tools for connection, which are also hideous new sources of shame, anxiety and obsession. And he’s not messing around—he’s enlisting the aide of a formidable crew of experts, and conducting his own fascinating, and hilarious, experiments. This will be a funny book that also shines a bright light on a whole new landscape, which incidentally concerns the future makeup of the species.”

Ansari said, “You know when you text someone you’re romantically interested in and you don’t hear anything back and then you see them post a photo of a pizza on Instagram? That’s exactly what I want this book to deal with. These are strange conundrums that no generation has ever faced before and it’s a fascinating jumping off point for what I hope will be a very interesting book about modern courtship.”

In the deal for World rights, Ansari was represented by Richard Abate of 3 Arts Entertainment and Mike Berkowitz of APA. The book is tentatively scheduled for publication in September 2015.
